Many years ago, on the banks of the River Wandle, the William Morris print works made beautiful fabrics and wallpapers. Today Spaced In cabinetmakers make beautifully built in furniture just down stream in the marginally less romantic Goat Road industrial estate in Mitcham. We use tools and techniques as old as carpentry alongside modern materials and technology with the simple ideal that fine craftsmanship, craftsmanship done for more than simply money, should be as affordable as possible.We specialise in a small but perfectly formed range of classic designs for bedrooms and living rooms.
Services
Our Victorian style is designed to be decorative without being florid. The cock bead detailing we put around the framing does a subtle job of adding shadow detail and interest as well as forming attractive joints in the corners where the moulding flows round. A larger version of it is found all over Victorian homes particularly around sash windows and front doors.
Our paint finish is either our house white, a soft white (more yellow than blue) which will almost certainly go with your existing white woodwork, or is mixed to match any given manufacturer's colour or colour sample. Common colours such as Farrow and Ball Old White, for example, can be supplied to us the next day with more obscure colours or matches taking a couple of days.

Ben has a true sense of pride in his craft and this was clearly evident from our first meeting. He has made for us a total of three bespoke cabinets and shelving for two alcoves. His meticulousness and fine tuning of every detail are evident in the finished product, all of which are of the highest quality and unique to our own space. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending 'spaced in'. Treat yourself to something beautiful made by a true professional.

Spaced in built some beautiful bespoke fitted wardrobes, cupboards and draws for a very awkward sized loft conversion, which I was so happy with that I then commissioned the company to also build bespoke draws, shelves and cabinets throughout the property. They also build a bespoke large wood framed mirror to correspond with the interior design. Our whole property has effectively been revolutionised by creative solutions designed by spaced in; I can therefore highly recommend their service!

Ben designed and installed a floor to ceiling hall cupboard for me as I wanted to create some extra storage space in my new flat. He very quickly grasped what I wanted, sent me some designs for me to review, and then got to work on constructing the cupboard in his workshop. He came over to install the finished article and was very tidy and efficient.
I was delighted with the final result. The cupboard fits beautifully in the space and several years later is in regular use. When you commission a craftsman like Ben you get a really bespoke final product, down to the exact placement of the shelving, and finish. Ben spray painted the cupboard so that it matched the colour of the hallway and also fitted my choice of door knobs.
If you enjoy good design it is a really fun experience to co-create your installation and nothing is too much trouble for Ben. Throughout the project he was responsive, cheerful and professional. Ben is clearly someone who takes a great deal of enjoyment and pride in his work. Highly recommended!

Highly recommend! We had an awkward space in the bedroom but Ben and the team carefully thought about how to make the best use of the space when building our cabinets. Ben and team made two sets of alcove shelves, two built in bathroom cabinets and several built in wardrobes for us as part of a house renovation project. All of these were "non-standard" and made to our specifications. They were great people to work with: very responsive, a great attitude ("it's your job as the client to tell me what you want - and mine to figure out a way to make it happen") and easy to work with. We're very pleased with the results and 12+ months on all seem to be wearing well.

Ben installed floating bookshelves, a shoe cabinet and a TV cabinet which look absolutely stunning. He had a great attention to details and managed to match the colours of the wall painting. He had some great design input and listened to what we were looking for. His work is definitely a key feature in our flat that everyone loves - the photos don't do it justice!
