Dobbies has been operating in the UK for over 140 years, having been established in Glasgow in 1865 - the same year that Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland and the first speed limit was introduced into Britain (in case you were wondering, it was set at 2mph in built-up areas, and an eye-watering 4mph in the country).

Originally started in Scotland as a seed catalogue company, Dobbies & Co was awarded the Royal Warrant in 1894, and by the beginning of the twentieth century already had fifty thousand customers on its books. The company has since weathered the Great Depression in the 1920s, two world wars, the launch of Rock'n'Roll and space flight, the beginning and the end of the Cold War, the highs of the 80s and the lows of the nineties, mass take-up of the Internet, the mapping of the human genome, the rise and fall of Britney Spears, the Credit Crunch of 2008-2009 and the Ash Cloud of 2010.

Today Dobbies operates the UK's largest online garden retailer, www.dobbies.com, and has 26 stores throughout Great Britain. Whatever your gardening needs, Dobbies has been there, grown that. Dobbies - it's in our nature.
