Gerald gained a B A degree in Fine Art at Exeter College of Art in 1975 where he also became interested in making musical instruments. After several happy years making Hurdy Gurdys, Citterns, and other folk instruments, and running a repair shop in Norwich, he became interested in furniture and woodcarving. He started working for a well known Norfolk furniture maker and studied woodcarving, part time at the London College of Furniture.

Attended a beginners day course with Gerry and had a thoroughly enjoyable day Gerry is very talented and a great tutor and demonstrated the techniques required to learn basic wood carving, spending time with each student, and providing everything we needed from tools to techniques on improving the days project. Gerry has a wonderful workshop and followed all guidelines necessary under the current pandemic.
I would highly recommend attending one of Gerry's courses if anyone is thinking of starting wood carving. I am also looking forward to attending further workshops Gerry puts on. Thank you also to Barbara, Gerry's wife, for a delicious lunch

I attended a one day taster course on February 1st. The course was very informative and a joy to do. Gerry is a very talented carver and a wonderful instructor who is passionate about carving and teaching. I came away with a lot more knowledge of carving and using carving tools than could ever be learnt from doors and videos. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn how to carve, also the lunch provided was mouthwatering.
