Gerald gained a B A degree in Fine Art at Exeter College of Art in 1975 where he also became interested in making musical instruments. After several happy years making Hurdy Gurdys, Citterns, and other folk instruments, and running a repair shop in Norwich, he became interested in furniture and woodcarving.
